Values education and secondary teacher training: The case of the UPV/EHU
The purpose of the study is to analyse how is the presence of values education in the curriculum of the Master in Secondary Teacher Training (MFPS), as well as how the future teachers from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) perceives it. A descriptive research is presented in which a documentary analysis of 41 study plans from different Spanish universities has been done, also 70 students of that University answered a questionnaire. The results show that there is a limited presence of values education in that plans. It is concluded that there is a notable awareness of values education in future teachers from the UPV/EHU, although more than half recognize a low level of knowledge. While the view of the “ideal” teacher is homogenous, there are discrepancies about which values have to be promoted in adolescent students, as well as in terms of gender and Master speciality.
